HU-LINC began in May, 1999, as the last major city school district (Houston ISD) accepted into the Urban Systemic Initiative program.   The program is administered by the National Science Foundation as a five-year initiative.  For information on the original proposal and initial implementation guidelines, you may reference the program as listed in the NSF web site, or contact the HU-LINC office at:

Because HISD is composed of approximately 300 schools, this comprehensive mathematics, science, and technology initiative was phased into the district in three cohorts.  Each of the 13 area districts within HISD were represented by designated feeder patterns during each of the first three years of implementation.  By the spring of 2002, every school in HISD has had the opportunity to become involved in one or more aspects of the HU-LINC experience.  Virtually every school has taken advantage of these opportunities.
