MISSION STATEMENT
for the

Houston Urban Learning Initiatives in a Networked Community (HU-LINC)

University/College Coalition

The HU-LINC University/College Coalition is a representative body of all colleges and universities in the greater Houston area working with the community to support superior educational achievement in the areas of science, mathematics, and technology (SMT) for all students in the City of Houston.

This dynamic coalition is committed to:

redbullet.gif (890 bytes)providing the faculty, programs, facilities, and research needed to furnish SMT related professional development activities for Houston educators which emphasize standards-based curricula, inquiry-centered learning, and higher student interest and performance in science, mathematics and technology;

redbullet.gif (890 bytes)working together to develop and maintain K-12 teacher education programs that provide enthusiastic and capable teachers of mathematics
and science who know how to facilitate SMT learning in urban schools with diverse student populations;

redbullet.gif (890 bytes)promoting effective college/university level SMT education which builds upon the local K-12 SMT programs, resulting in an increased number of Houston students pursuing SMT-related careers and thus supporting the continuing growth of Houston as a major international center for technology- based industries; and

redbullet.gif (890 bytes)creating effective linkages which support the HU-LINC mission.
