| MISSION STATEMENT
for the
Houston Urban Learning Initiatives in a Networked Community (HU-LINC)
University/College
Coalition
The HU-LINC
University/College Coalition is a representative body of all colleges and universities in
the greater Houston area working with the community to support superior educational
achievement in the areas of science, mathematics, and technology (SMT) for all students in
the City of Houston.
This dynamic coalition is committed to:
providing the faculty, programs,
facilities, and research needed to furnish SMT related professional development activities
for Houston educators which emphasize standards-based curricula, inquiry-centered
learning, and higher student interest and performance in science, mathematics and
technology;
working together to develop and
maintain K-12 teacher education programs that provide enthusiastic and capable teachers of
mathematics
and science who know how to facilitate SMT learning in urban schools with diverse student
populations;
promoting effective college/university
level SMT education which builds upon the local K-12 SMT programs, resulting in an
increased number of Houston students pursuing SMT-related careers and thus supporting the
continuing growth of Houston as a major international center for technology- based
industries; and
creating effective linkages which
support the HU-LINC mission. |
